IMO multisigs should only come into play when governance is involved. Not just DAOs, but even like, regular old estate planning, which might be what you're doing. Most of what I do is shuffling funds between EOAs at different security levels, from hot Metamask wallets to cold hidden and encrypted wallets.

For personal self-custody a Ledger is the only thing I use. I think a multisig for personal use is overkill. Is there a specific threat to the private keys on the Ledger that concern you?

12 + 1, distributed across three locations/entities. You need 2 to restore your wallet.

Have you considered account abstraction solutions? At @ambirewallet we’re building a non-custodial wallet for all platforms (desktop, mobile and browser extension)

right now only an EOA, but I am thinking about how to add another 2fa level of security in case I do end up falling for some shady phishing scam, right now I use hey.com for adding a layer of security against phishing attacks, I have been receiving a couple very good attempts pretending to be coinbase ...

Personally I don’t recommend using hot wallets or multi-sigs that way I use hot wallets as hot wallets, basic hardware wallets as cold wallets, and a more complex “ice cold” storage that takes quite a bit to unravel

The setup you’re describing sounds good to me - perhaps will change in the future with passkey-based AA wallets over ledgers though given their recent controversies

4 of 6, other people should hold some of the keys for you (ideally, enough to recover the funds if you disappear, so you solve that problem too as a side effect)

ive been thinking about this since you casted this and i realized one of the reasons i havent fully shifted to using rainbow browser extension is im not sure theyre as battle tested as metamask when it comes to generating and securing keys same goes for zerion/uniswap/xyz wallets

Basically this, except 2 hot wallets are strictly different hardware/OS categories (e.g. laptop and mobile).

inverting the thought process to solve for the weakest part in the loop --some combo of tech that works well with @sarcophagus which probably brings one back to Ledger, or the safer usage of Trezor

Keep it simple. Lean heavily on passphrases and try not to complicate the actual key storage. Diversify hardware wallets and accounts.

Trezor supports shamir secrets for splitting your seed phrase, which is a nice tool to be combined with some of the other approaches mentioned! https://blog.trezor.io/shamir-backup-the-revolution-of-private-keys-backup-is-here-858687ed7fe7
