would you or someone you know be interested in a list of the dark patterns performed by LinkedIn? 👀 thinking about compiling an informative list

Wow. “For free” according to the company’s LinkedIn page, but visiting rapportive.com redirects me to a Sales Navigator upsell page. I guess the demo is still free? https://techcrunch.com/2020/02/13/linkedin-will-sunset-sales-navigator-for-gmail-formerly-known-as-rapportive-on-march-20/

The 2020 article supposedly outlines the history. It looks like it was allowed to decay for some time but officially sunsetted in 2020 Some nuggets: “LinkedIn itself went through a process of cutting off a lot of apps that tapped into its social graph, essentially building the walls around its garden a little higher to encourage more people to pay up for LinkedIn’s premium tiers, or at least visit an increasingly more limited version of the site as free users to bring it more traffic (and possibly get upsold to the premium tiers).”

“Eventually, LinkedIn also started to cut out Rapportive’s links to other social apps, focusing just on LinkedIn” … “LinkedIn dropped the Rapportive name and standalone product altogether, rolling it up with Sales Navigator, one of its premium tiers.” RIP Rapportive It would be cool if we could build apps based on open source FEs and decentralized data so if the company that makes them gets acquired, you can still use them…
