What is the most frustrating thing about Farcaster right now? Reply and like the replies from others that resonate. I’ll only ask clarifying questions (ie I won’t tell you you’re wrong) and then respond to a dozen or so top answers in a video this weekend with how we think about it.

The fact that users have to pay just to create an account, there’s no “free trial” I know you guys are working on driving down the cost but it’s still unclear what the incentive is for non-WC apps to use FC for identity given that it adds friction and the value ultimately accrues to Merkle

Is “free trial” a full read / write account from your pov? Or is free but read only sufficient?

I think it would be nice if they could have a little bit of storage to “try things out” but even read only would be huge since it would allow other apps to grow the identity graph

might be interesting if top casters were given “free invites” instead of eg 5 usdc (or perhaps in addition to)

You can already use your 5 USDC rewards to purchase prepaid invites for friends (although a bit annoying since you have to convert to warps first) but my main point here is that more apps should feel confident in integrating FC as their identity layer which will help grow the number of accounts on the protocol

(thinking out loud) someone has to bear the cost, can't be the network imo. Some kind of ~sponsoring/vouching system could work, but the burden/friction still probably falls on the onboarding app. Merkle can ship software to help apps filter out bots.... maybe? might be a losing cause over time given pace of ai

They're working on getting the true cost to register an FID down to $0.15 and have said that they're open to sponsoring sign ups for apps onboarding quality users. I think that empowering apps to use FC as the identity layer would be a huge win for the protocol since it means more users and relationships getting built across apps.
