No need for an ethereum-specific operating system imo; we should rally around existing open-source security-focused tech like https://grapheneos.org/, https://www.pine64.org/, etc

I used CalyxOS for about four years - the downside is that you become a bit of a pain for your friends (I can't x with this app bc it requires Google Play Services, can you do it / can I contribute another way?) but I highly encourage anyone w a bit of tech savvy or stalwartness to try it! I'll prolly go Graphene next

ethOS is based on grapheneOS. With a few changes to make there on mobile great, like a system-level wallet and local light client proxies. I'd love to show you sometime :) ( I am the lead dev for ethOS)

Please don't let the name mislead you to think that ethOS is a shallow ETH-maxi effort. ethOS is GrapheneOS, but with system-level services leveraging Ethereum. It's primarily a UX-driven project. You created a very useful protocol, and apps that use Ethereum are better when the OS embraces it.

ethOS is graphene based. I like the idea of onchain application versioning to help solve the “trusting trust” problem. imagine app.signal.eth pointed to an APK. Now ethOS knows it’s getting same bundle as everyone else, no trusted server. & Signal has a deterministic build, so it’s also exactly what’s on GH

I hope we can learn from the 2+ decades of linux distributions trying to compete with Windows/MacOS on the desktop. It's not enough to build an open project and hope for adoption based on the ideology of the users. We need a project that has Apple-like obsession over the user experience so people will desire to use it.

Correct since this is more like a bundled service of the OS and seems wrong to say the OS is changed in any meaningful way. But to that point is better to target ASOP directly if you want wider distribution, maybe who knows at some point you can have a crypto wallet "Manager" in Android APIs.

What does OS mean in genuinely decentralised environment it could involve 5 billion computers connecting P2P there would be a mechanisms and needs for trust in this environment that would trust ethereum with above others
