There is abject socialism like having to justify every purchase to a committee and then there is workable socialism like providing free medical care to those who would die otherwise. One of these versions is compatible with modern markets and one of them isn’t.

Wolff’s answer makes no sense. If one cooperative, let’s call it Sony, made electronics like tvs and game consoles, and one cooperative produced food, or parts for trains, or anything else. The person who works for the train parts cooperative would just trade a certain amount of labour vouchers for a PlayStation

The sad part is people are more worried about having a PS5 than ending poverty and war. Sure it sounds crazy and very difficult to have to convince your neighbors to make a PS5, but is it? Is the loss of capacity to discuss and arrive at shared goals not an existencial risk?

He doesn't know what he's talking about. Socialism isn't about austerity in all our lives, it's about reprioritizing the resource of humanity to first care for everyone's basic needs so we can be truly free to do what we want and find fulfillment and dignity in life. We absolutely would have dope gaming consoles.

I'm more than welcoming to a new system but that one has never worked and never will. Part of the family lived in the DDR(GDR). Normal people were struggling for bananas while being told everyone the same but elites preaching water and drinking wine living in luxury. Human nature isn’t fit for a system like that.

Very true. But also true that many people don't really know what their actual values are. As a financial educator I see that all the time - people chase money, engagement, status. Those are not values. And if you ask them what their values are, clearly they don't really know.
