Nope, is it counted as very bad for devs? I'm bullish cos the amount of android users around me that get 'hacked' just because they installed malicious apps from both play store and outside play store

i'm speaking from end user pov in indonesia, 3rd world country from my pov as of now. gatekeeping is unpleasant, but apps for the masses are usually available on both android and apple. i use android for public service apps, because that's the only platform my government release in, so technically indonesia gatekeep apps because android devices have lower price barrier. very often these apps that we have to download to pay our utilities are ridden with malicious codes, believe it or not, you can google, some even put miners in the app, apple don't do this type of shit. i'll still champion apple over android any day, many people in first world country have the law to protect their 'freedom of speech' and i could go to jail for publicly shame a locally made app that has a miner in it, if the dev uses the law and there is a law specifically for that purpose.

I don't think Google play allows miners in apps, last time I heard they banned all apps containing it. F-Droid only allows FOSS apps. So I suppose there's an Alt store. does Indonesia have it's own app store?

i'm not familiar with google's guidelines and regulations now, but when I was using only android, it happened and left a really sour taste, i switched back to ios when i could and never look back. alt stores are a cesspool here, bad actors skin them 1:1 with Play Store, they always try to make you download through links in text messages, boomers always fall for it my android right now is strictly public service apps and they still suck

this is not Android's fault that there are fake play stores, it's the effect of an open system. With freedom comes responsibility. Android now actually by default doesn't allow you to install apps from the browser (unless you explicitly disable it) and it detects malware before you open the app. Many Android flavors have virus scanners too. it's not as bad as it probably was before, 10 years ago. also not Android's fault that public service app suck.

Not blaming android for their open system at all, in the end it all depends on end user's duty and due diligence. yes i agree freedom has its responsibilities, but i think if android dept in indo could do a bit more psa, situation might be better πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ Also, my android experience have jus been samsung and xiaomi, google phone is basically priced at daylight robbery, doesn't make sense if i get it just for public service apps Thank you for having this convo with me πŸ™
