i'm speaking from end user pov in indonesia, 3rd world country from my pov as of now. gatekeeping is unpleasant, but apps for the masses are usually available on both android and apple.
i use android for public service apps, because that's the only platform my government release in, so technically indonesia gatekeep apps because android devices have lower price barrier. very often these apps that we have to download to pay our utilities are ridden with malicious codes, believe it or not, you can google, some even put miners in the app, apple don't do this type of shit.
i'll still champion apple over android any day, many people in first world country have the law to protect their 'freedom of speech' and i could go to jail for publicly shame a locally made app that has a miner in it, if the dev uses the law and there is a law specifically for that purpose. 1 reply
