We did a deep dive into this today. Main takeaways: 1. The "bots" are humans and we catch a lot of them. 2. They target famous accounts like @zachxbt a lot more often. 3. They're evolving to only like/recast spamming

We wrote up a detail investigation here: https://www.notion.so/warpcast/ZachXBT-Spam-Analysis-Public-1a06a6c0c101803486efd11076c9c481 There are some clear improvements we can make which we'll take action on. Thanks to @zachxbt for highlighting the issue

How does like/recasting benefit these spammers? What are they hoping to achieve? I can’t understand the incentive.

Not as overt as Zach’s case, would love to see a similar investigation done for follower counts. There just no way any significant fraction of 18,000+ people are currently reading my stuff.

Thanks for the transparency! I wonder if zach still thinks if the team might be behind it trying to artificially boost activity. https://warpcast.com/zachxbt/0x3b59ed96

If you're at the point where you're filtering out actual humans that nevertheless reduced themselves to behaving as bots, then I'd say it's time to rethink the systems that are making them behave in this way.

I'm personally not too worried about "spamming" per se. I'd be more concerned with what their intent is for utilizing time to build these bots. What's the content of their recasts/likes? Is it specifically engagement farming for small accounts to look fake-ily popular? Waste of time. Hiding all that does the trick and I feel it's a good move. Potentially mis-labeling someone is a concern tho and avoiding this I'm sure is part of the process.

I think this could have been approached earlier, not until a famous account like zachxbt reported it, many farcasters have voiced out about the spammy reaction issue
