Is there ever a valid substitute for writing code? Eg building a simple manual version that delivers the same value prop before writing any code

Isn’t coding some features a sidequest in itself? How do you categorize and prioritize these?

Do you have any tips/recommendations on how to find people who can ship fast? Or is that something that you can only tell after seeing someone work? Building a strong team has always been challenging for me, and I usually just end up doing most of the work on my own. Curious if you have found any repeatable metrics to look for when it comes to shipping fast.

>avoid side quests awh man @arfonzo I am being personally attacked However, excellent advice all round here. 3 & 5 are my essentials. If your small team needs lots of meetings, you need a smaller team. And if you build out a dev/test & ci/cd pipeline early in product dev, you'll literally 3x your delivery speed

I think this is good, but tbh, what I do find is there's tension between shipping fast and serving end-users. What I see happening is the pressure of shipping fast means not getting enough substantiative feedback from the end-user, so essentially, they get looped into a side quest they created themselves.

Would love to hear more thoughts on “shipping fast” – specifically, how do you balance accruing code debt with delivering features? Because on some time horizon, code debt will make you move slower. Do you have a philosophy around making these kinds of trade-offs?
