My favorite thing from my time in Japan has been just watching people execute their craft with meticulous detail and skill… The 70 year old tempura master who’s been doing it for 30+ years; the father/son duo executing a flawless omakase; the bartender who spends 10 minutes cutting the most perfect ice cubes, etc

It is mesmerizing to see people in flow do a craft they’ve perfected over many years. And, most importantly, they genuinely care about the outcome (ie what they deliver to you).

Did you watch "Perfect Days"? https://www.perfectdays-movie.jp/en/ Shibuya ward organizes public toilet tours primed by the movie's popularity, especially with overseas visitors.

+1. Everyone in Japan takes pride in their work. It's a beautiful thing and something I wish we could bring to America.

I don't know if you're in Japan, but I think a weak yen and no tipping experience can provide the best experience possible for people from overseas.

I’m fascinated by them as well, and the culture 🤦🏻‍♀️ there is a certain beauty to watch what you just described, but the big mystery is how?! Like, how can you do the same simple thing over and over again for years and still be passionate and driven to get up in the morning and keep on going!
