Might be onto something interesting here, re: transcending realpolitik. Curious if anyone has any thoughts on the matter, will publish these notes soon.

It’s interesting to be aware of when we would be willing to “bend”. I personally like Aristotle’s perspective which treats ethics and practical wisdom as something that is obviously not as precise as mathematics, so that there is always room for judgment when it comes to the right action. He mentions that are times when someone is pushed “beyond what any human could be expected to handle.” For example what information they might share to save a ransomed family member. His approach won’t give us a crystal clear rulebook for action, but I think it is the most accurate to the reality of the moral experience.

That makes good sense, thanks for the thoughtful response. I like the "reality of the moral experience" framing. There's a difference between knowing a moral and experiencing one. There's merit in intellectualizing and discussing morals. But it's not really until we're faced with a predicament, such a the decision to share info that we swore we'd never share in order to save a ransomed family member, that we can rightly "claim" the moral as ours.
