new instagram features that make me think wtf: 1. on reels, you can see who of your friends already liked the reel 2. on posts, you can now see # of shares like how many times it was sent to someone else 3. on profiles, switched from a square to a rectangular grid (rip all the photos purposefully square cropped)

You dislike all of these? #1 and #2 make a lot of sense to me since they're adaptations to current social behaviors (discovering publicly, sharing and discussing privately) #3 I care less about but assuming they're trying to optimize more for reels (RIP indeed to the manicured square feeds lol)

remove some features that make instagram toxic... only to add back others. (referring to #2) 1 and 3, i can see why. 1 creates more network effects + better sharing/discovery, and 3 feels more aligned with modern design ui. not that many people post square-only pictures now. it feels dated

#1 is WILD. it’s like bringing back the early days when you could publicly see what posts your friends have liked im finding out a LOT about my friends’ algos based on that featured tho agfshsgsjsk 💀😭 lots of study material for people who like finding out more about human behavior

1. this is a full circle. Instagram previously showed all people who liked already so i dont see anything shocking here. 2. # of shares increases audience based on most recent metrics i believe shared by instagram itself 3. this one - i agree RIP

1 and 2 feel like regressions but nothing wild. 3 is a crime against humanity

#2 actually helps see what's being actively shared in friend groups - be it for producing content, finding ideas around that niche etc. but weirdly seen creators adding CTAs to share directly back to them for fake share counts.

My friends and I have similar algos, I don't want to be that guy who sends a meme they've already liked

They’ve also integrated share IDs into the link, not really sure how else to describe this. You used to be able to delete the SHID from a link you created when clicking “Copy”, now it’s just integrated into the link as a single hash. I don’t like this.
