was talking about masculinity / femininity and associated energies yesterday in the water during a surf with @nonlinear.eth (yes, i needed to include those details) and we stumped ourselves. are there any qualities or traits that are exclusively masculine or exclusively feminine? we think no.

I took a class on this called “Masculinities” in school (looking at men’s issues using feminist frameworks). U and @nonlinear.eth are absolutely correct. There are none, which is why gender is a performance That’s why I use they/them pronouns, I refuse to be put into a binary of only masc/fem traits 😁

I think you’d enjoy The Second Sex by Simone de Beauvoir, she discusses the sociological phenomenon of there being no real delineation except by culture.

Ok not to state the obvious but childbirth and all that goes with it, including the impact on career, impact of certain laws, etc etc But yes generally agree that most “differences” are culturally imposed and vary dependent on said culture.

In astrology we categorise elements of signs into feminine and masculine, air/fire is masc and water/earth is fem, and we also look at specific planets to see how that energy is expressed. I do think traits can be categorised in this way, but it’s important to discern and not incorrectly label as male/female

Exclusive? No. But I'd offer propensity towards violence as an overwhelmingly masculine trait. Rationale: males commit ~90% of homicides globally. https://www.unodc.org/unodc/en/data-and-analysis/global-study-on-homicide.html

Is that surprising? Why is exclusivity an important distinction? Aren’t masc/fem general terms that we all exhibit in varying amounts? So masculine ≠ male.

I love this question! Balancing fem & masc energy has been central to my meditation study. My interpretation is Fem - surrender, being, receiving Masc - action, doing, directing What do you think?
