in the spirit of respectful debate: most of our FC followers are airdrop/free mint farmers so they'd agree, not disagree, with this :) agree we need to design for positive contributions BUT its more nuanced than that imo clicking a button =/= microwork, volatile token requiring 24/7 tracking =/= economic prosperity

Well put — love both the people in this convo so I believe it will be very productive. And it’s not an unimportant point for the future direction of crypto.

Airdrop farmers remind me a bit of slacktivism tbh I don’t see it as real activism to share Instagram/X/tiktoks about controversial topics and think that’s going to change anything in the echo chamber you’re in on social media Same way I don’t see it as “microwork” to airdrop farm

getting many new followers, and while it’s cool, i wish there was some way to restrict for quality. 1000 quality followers >>> all i'm reminded of your casts everytime i see the ‘follow, recast, comment for xyz’ and have trouble seeing it as anything but a red flag now.

Clicking a button, no. Now, on ramping from fiat to crypto, converting from your starting asset to the needed one and for chain gas, likely bridging with a convoluted protocol, most of the time putting your money into an unproven protocol to allow them to work the big out on me. Maybe a bit more than micro work.

so much of airdrop farming is just playing spray and pray and hoping. doing nothing really of value but to further evangelize/distribute the "protocol" (which most are valueless "projects" with no real plan/product) in hopes that they can get something for nothing. hard agree.

i think there is also a difference between someone going through the motion (eg following an airdrop guide) and actually using your product. they may both press the same buttons, but one is actually interacting with your product. essentially - how do we convert DAUs to qDAUs

People always find a way to game the system based on where the incentives are. We see this in regional differences in architecture due to building codes and taxes. Dutch canals in Amsterdam tax based on frontage so you see lots of tall, skinny buildings. Other places tax windows so people board up windows in their home
