I don’t come to Warpcast for the content. I come for the people. At its core, this is a social network - not social media and I think there’s an important distinction there. 

We certainly do need more and better content. I think we could also benefit from more ‘people first’ features like this:

fully agree with this take. when you try to compete on interesting content you're competing with X/instagram/tiktok/youtube/reddit. this will force you to play the game of engagement maximising algos which is upstream of everything we've come to hate about online social today

lots more room for innovation in connecting people

There is nothing more powerful in this world than words.

when you get to know the people you engage with online, even their more menial "content" means more to you

imo just because a network doesn't optimize for engagement doesn't mean it will be devoid of engaging, high quality content

How does one play such a game without creating engaging, high quality content?

Love this. I suggested an N-city framework for thinking about Farcaster's path forward, and I still believe it strongly.

Also, while the *specifics* of the Aristotelian insight about an ideal city size (~10K people) have been altered by invention of digital communication, the *general concept* that there are ideal and non-ideal sizes for different types of human association is an insight that we need to think about more deeply from first principles as we build out the future of politics.

There is something to learn from this about how to build other “city-sized” social networks on farcaster. That’s a differentiating product.

i'm not entirely sold on exclusivity, but the more i think about it the more i believe the key to building a successful network that retains users is to somehow replicate that early community feeling (which is not exclusive to farcaster) over and over again - along the lines of what you've been saying for a long time already with the city-sized social networks on farcaster

but i feel like this can be automated with algorithmic discovery and doesn't have to necessarily be isolated into smaller networks. need to help people with similar status (for lack of a better word) find eachother and build eachother up the way the farcaster OGs did a couple of years back

People join because they’re looking for something new?

agree deeply on this, I quit and uninstalled those other social networks because of algo/dau maxing.

since there’s no evidence of mainstream demand for crypto’s core value props, the most appropriate advice is something I learned here: “play a different game”.

Honestly, that’s right! Here we do more of connecting with people and building meaningful relationships rather than just competing for attention with algorithms. 

It’s about fostering real connections and community, which is something that feels missing on other platforms why cause the of the clear difference between a Social Media and a Social Network

It's true that a single connection can radically change the course of a life. 

That was the original idea behind Facebook. We should see how the youth aged 13-17 view the world in our time. 

Maybe that's where the key lies. Prepare the place where the future generation will absolutely want to be, by building it tailored specifically for them.
