my understanding is that the E2EE implementation in XMTP is missing forward secrecy (cc @cassie)

don’t have context on why they opted for that, but my instinct is that Double Ratchet solved this problem 10 years ago

I think Farcaster can do better

Forward secrecy is a feature of XMTP groups and coming to 1:1 very soon. We chose the IETF's newer MLS standard over double ratchet, which is less scalable.
