In video calls, do you default to camera off or camera on? Why? Does it differ depending on who youβre meeting?

Camera off, unless it's someone new β there's a cognitive overhead to a camera, especially for women: https://www.psypost.org/2021/12/having-your-camera-on-during-virtual-meetings-promotes-zoom-fatigue-especially-among-women-and-newer-employees-62214

A friend of mine uses snap cam beauty filters on her laptop. She said itβs much quicker than putting make up on, and makes these things much less of a hassle. Found it a great hack.

make up=compensate The filter or artificial background forces the other participants to compensate for interrupted attention, along with disruptions already inherent in the medium. It also always feels fake, so I like it natural.
