If you had the opportunity to share your founder journey with a group of aspiring founders currently getting their MBAs what would you want them to know? What are your biggest lessons learned?

Here are some of the concepts I have so far: Focus on relationships & listening: Simply aiming to deliver the best product at the right price at the right time is not enough Trust is your most valuable asset: Gaining trust is hard and takes time, losing it is easy and can happen in an instant Your company's culture isn't what you say it is…It's what you tolerate: Every decision, or lack thereof, shapes your team's culture Serendipity happens when you're in motion: Keep moving/going even when you are unsure

Great question! Learning who and what to trust has been the through-line of my entire founder journey. Which frameworks, authors, gurus, workshops, investors, SMEs, KOLs, etc. So many people trying to make money for themselves, NOT for you. Which customers to trust. Some don’t know what they want, some have bad taste, and some shouldn’t be your customers. 🤷‍♂️ Which consultants to trust. Some are too risk averse to give good advice to founders. Especially when they’re risking relationships and reputation on an unproven founder/startup. When to trust my gut and when to ignore. Sometimes, “wisdom” is outdated. But failing when you’ve gone against your gut is soooo much worse than failing when taking too much advice from others.

refine your story. ppl care less about what you're building and more about the problem you're solving, the time you're saving, the everyday impact on their daily life. listen before you speak and build relationships before you attempt to sell or onboard. and importantly, don't slide into ppl's dm's with an ask without following them first ;)

Businesses are not about strategy or excel sheets. They are about humans and building a meaningful product for those humans.

Have a bias towards action and try to only work on what is immediately relevant to getting tangible real world feedback. Most of your ideas will be wrong at first. See the concept of tarpit ideas. And maybe most importantly, your full vision for the future is not at all what gets you there. The strategic execution in order to make your actual idea work is the real crux of every venture. Ask yourself every day "how do we get there" and then do nothing but exactly that. Don't lose yourself in what you like to do. Do what you have to do in order to win, ruthlessly. https://powerlaw.systems/heads-in-the-clouds
