how does putting the vide on chain, etc... gives the ability to verify if it's real or not? heard a lot of people talking about this, what's the best thing to read on the topic? https://twitter.com/shaunmmaguire/status/1758197940253000056

You just need signatures and a signature registry. Blockchain has the signature registry, signatures are off chain metadata embedded into the videos. Similar to FCs architecture.

You don't need to put the video onchain. No one has figured the right solution yet so it's highly unlikely there's much to read about it especially since most are ignoring it. There are ways to generate random sample fingerprints and sign them with a key so you can track provenance even if the content is modified.

OpenAI is introducing detection tools and C2PA metadata to ensure users can easily identify Sora-generated content, enhancing the ability to differentiate between genuine and AI-created videos.

I think identifying real v. fake content itself will be AI driven. Blockchain can be used to verify provenance and ownership but in terms of the content itself it comes down to trusting the initial party.

Less abt being onchain although that adds properties. Onchain gives us ownership & proof of existence at or before a time. Time is important more than ownership here. ‘real’ is not a property. It’s knowing a person was in possession of the content (signed by) so they can eg ‘…I approve this message/video’

Two key aspects here: identity, which establishes credibility, and authenticity. Cryptographic signatures verify that the uploader, say a news anchor, is genuine. And for the content itself, AI can determine if it’s been tampered with or is AI-generated.

I believe many people conflate the words “real” with “partially provable”. For example, OAI is using metadata to show if something is generated by them but these metadata can be easily tampered. That can be solvable with chains (immutability) https://twitter.com/OpenAI/status/1754930271970005161
