What’s the best one-liner to explain the act of minting?

would need to explain onchain. (i should have mentioned the one-liner being for someone who hasn’t touched any blockchain)

“saving”

saving a digital thing to your wallet. sometimes it costs money, sometimes it doesn’t

these ‘digital things’ can be art, subscriptions, memberships, passes, tickets, financial assets, and more

Minting:

Attesting (and often paying) to be the first to associate a uniquely-numbered digital object with your blockchain-based account at a specific moment in time, for the world to see and remember forever.

Minting lets you add a digital “serial number” or provenance to your creation.

Is kinda how I explain it to folks 🤷‍♂️

Collecting a digital object directly from the creator

The digital equivalent of posting something to yourself and not opening it to prove you created it at a moment in time.

A signature of sorts from creator or collector

To make a digital, verifiable item or version of something.

Recording a thing publicly without having to rely on a company to keep that record for you forever in their private database

Just thought of something concretish.

Creating ownership of value based immutable property.

But tbh I just think of it as creating. Simple and broad.
