Might not be the popular take but I’m not convinced an ETF is good for ETH, feels at odds with the movement we’ve been building Some takes make me feel uneasy, like have you just been waiting for acceptance from the old system the entire time, or been trying to build a new one?

Are you worried about the centralising forces of the ETF, or something else? I have that kind of uneasiness at times then I remembered we used to pray for times like this (the institutions are coming).

I had to re-read this like 4 times. I had no idea there were people who felt that way. Seems pretty religious (in a bad way) to me.

Agnostic to etfs. Definitely trying to build something new.

Crypto will come in many variations. We’ve all been here a while but what is obvious to me is that self custody is not a one size fits all solution. The ETF may be the best exposure people can have to the financial upside but not the technological.

On the bright side: Tradfi will be subsidizing ETHstakers and keeping the percentage of staked ETH from getting out of control because only an vanilla ETH ETF will be approved anytime soon

I guess I look at it as continued affirmation of the legitimacy of crypto and continues to bring great acceptance to the space from those who may be on the fence. Not necessarily from a large influx of capital flows, but more from a signal to the decision makers that crypto matters beyond BTC.

Maybe the ETF is just a stepping stone. If we succeed in building the new system we supposedly are, an ETF will become pointless because holding your own funds will be easy and normal. Perhaps the fastest path is for people to have a way to participate that they understand, which will fund building the new thing.

I hear you, I’m kind of indifferent. Counterpoint: It’s not good for much except 1) buy pressure and 2) legitimization of the asset/ecosystem. More exposure = more education = more understanding = more eyes opening (hopefully)

Many BTC fans felt the same way about the current ETF. I guess I feel like it’s inevitable either way and we just need to focus on building where we can

I think you might be seeing it as tradfi infiltrating a space you want to see move away from that world. I think it’s a sort of rationalization on their part. It’s an awkward attempt by people who really don’t get it to sell something to another group that also doesn’t get it.

Beauty of a permission-less system. I don’t care about an ETF, wouldn’t buy one. But let them come and put their money in. More economic security for us. Maybe some will even learn and go deeper.
