i went down the rabbithole study with me -> code with me -> hang out with me -> ??? i'm shook. this is just unbelievably depressing. would you consider these creators to be immoral? at least with OF there's a clear transactional layer. this resembles an *emotional* OF, which somehow feels worse?

it's clearly nuanced, but still mortifying. is hearing stuff like "we were destined for each other" really helping these dudes in the long run? curious the moz take @erik @antonio @dwr.eth

@ruthveda.eth where there is a buyer there is a seller I’d say. I have used a professional hugger when I felt most depleted in my failed marriage so not judging anyone who pays for this service. Still a worrying development for humanity but who knows maybe essential in future metaverse?

I’m gonna be honest when I was in school I used to use the study with mes! I found them really helpful especially late at night when none of my friends were up. I didn’t get emotional gratification at all. Just quiet background noise like being in a library or a coffee and people typing or writing.

It’s a virtual girlfriend experience that some people look for when they feel alone. Some people just want to feel accepted and feel seen/loved, even if it’s just a video. There are a lot of lonely folks out there & if this resonates or helps them, let it. No judgement.

Probably immoral but I disagree with it being *worse* than OF, there is a lot of emotional manipulation on there as well through private messages etc. Furthermore at some point the responsibility has to lie with the user - it would be pretty draconian to ban this stuff outright.

This is no worse than anything else, to me. How can I get what I want with no work. Memecoins, parasocial relationships with YouTubers, DoorDash, GLP-1s, on and on. I want to be rich with no work. Have gf with no work. Cook but do no work. Get skinny but do no work.
