whenever i've tried to discuss the tech with ppl i know (also left-leaning), they get very defensive bc it challenges/potentially threatens the illusion of security they feel with the status quo (that they also complain about.) so the response is to point at the ponzis and the enviro as a way to shut the convo down

I think some of it is also the far right element of certain crypto communities (usually from Bitcoin maxis) that tends to make the headlines. Elizabeth Warren's misinformation doesn't help either...

And for what it's worth in my demographic (center-left silicon valley gen X) it's far more anti-crypto than AI. Probably because AI has been paying a lot of the bills around here.

in the non-tech art/creatives demo (very left on a lot of topics), many see ai as the end of the world. before that, nfts was the end of the world. a lot of artists i know are luddites tho (⌒_⌒;) some still don't believe in photoshop. they must be going nuts that adobe has been integrating more ai tools into ps

Noticed this too. Tech industry has generally had little respect for creative intellectual property concerns, so I understand some of their wariness towards generative AI. You think they'd get NFTs though!
