Scalable private messaging and groups with deniability and forward secrecy using the MLS standard in Nostr. It’s a working proof of concept so far, but the future of social media privacy is bright. https://njump.me/note125cuk0zetc7sshw52v5zaq9apq3rq7e2x587tr2c96t7z7sjs59svwv0fj

So Twitter is seeing a bunch of folks leave and join Bluesky because Twitter is changing the way its blocks work to be like Bluesky? https://docs.bsky.app/blog/block-implementation

His metaphors might be a bit one-sided 😂. Calling Farcaster a "casino" is an exaggeration, but it has attracted more degens than Nostr, though it still thrives on a community-driven builder culture. He mentioned the history of software and internet development, has been a series of swings between centralization and decentralization. Nostr stands out as one of the most decentralized social protocols, giving users full control over their data. However, this often means app development is community-driven, lacking the polish and competitiveness of mature teams, leading to a poorer user experience with weaker UI/UX and less sophisticated algorithms compared to platforms like Twitter and Threads. In exploring the creator economy, tipping alone isn’t an attractive and sustainable long-term model. Echoing his "We make the road by walking", I look forward to the Nostr eco flourishing, which will require contributions from believers in DeSoc and top dev teams, which is also a challenge for Farcaster eco.

So far this is an interesting talk. Haven't finished it yet though. Will report back if there's anything interesting. But... There's a segment where he compares different social networks to different physical spaces and groups. He compares Farcaster to a casino. https://youtu.be/XUsk7cqZyKU?si=ysrkh2o25YD3XKU0

This is a really good overview of ATProtocol, Nostr and how we got here. Reading this confirms my bullishness on Farcaster even more. I did my own analysis a couple of years ago even though the hub idea hadn’t been fleshed out yet. Tying in with EVM accounts and using smart contracts as registry is what sold me on FC. Aside from the app first design approach. The article doesn’t mention composability since that’s not much of a thing on other protocols (except for Lightning integration on Nostr). This sets Farcaster apart. Bluesky and now Nostr get a lot of attention because of Jack Dorsey and the loud bitcoiners. Farcaster will succeed if it becomes the social substrate of the programmable blockchain space. https://shreyanjain.net/2024/07/05/nostr-and-atproto.html

While Bluesky has a character limit ATproto does not. When my nostr notes are viewed in Mastodon they display the full length. It’s a default for posting on Mastodon of 500 characters, not a restriction of the software or ActivityPub.

Which also doesn’t have a character limit, but is bridged to most other protocols/apps/platforms on the list.

When is farcaster going to allow gateways to other systems? Bluesky, Nostr, & Mastodon are all connected with two way fully functional two way gateways. Threads is one way but will be two way soon. Farcaster is left out because you can’t have an identity without paying. Cross posting from a client isn’t enough.

I mean it’s not even close to that. The DAUs for farcaster are between 20k and 50k. The fediverse and Bluesky don’t have a million DAU.
