this is crazy shift

it's a huge shift in two ways:

1) communities get the opportunity to monetize in addition to the platforms (a client could still inject their own ads)

2) ads can be selected by the community owner rather than the hosting platform

both of those are insanely good for communities

I love to see more talk about ads. Ads aren’t bad but they’ve gotten a bad rep.

I don’t know if it’s just me, but the sponsored posts I’m seeing on instagram are actually well aligned. I find myself watching the videos as much as I stop and watch/view other content.

truth is we are overrun with ads

and the terms of how they get placed mean they often are not well aligned to our values ("don't be the psychopath without furniture. come shop today!" is an actual billboard I saw)

but a well aligned sponsorship can be a mutually beneficial driver
