Somehow I missed this about the Reddit IPO. The equivalent in crypto happens all the time right? It’d be like Farcaster dropping a token and allocating x% to channel hosts. Not unheard of but interesting to see in a traditional IPO.

Except you have to buy the shares and most stock prices crater after IPO. If I got dropped these shares, cool. But I ain't buying at inflated prices.

I can’t help but think, when a company offers ipo shares to retail, it sees them as exit liquidity and to pump up the price with people who have an emotional attachment to the company Substack did similar for a private round. IPO is admittedly more acceptable and I think good in general
