What is a mental trick you use personally to snap out of a bad mood or negative thought pattern?

In cases where you can identify (or maybe sort of identify) the conditions that are causing the bad mood/thoughts, creatively visualize a worse version of the scenario. Kind of a play on the framing effect. 🧠 happy relative to the worse (but not real) scenario. Dali Lama put it: "look down, not up"

All the way to "death" visualisation is an extreme end of the pole to push it to (although I'm a fan of that too) ...apparently a Tibetan buddhist practice was to literally meditate with the corpse at an extended funeral while it decomposed. "extreme sports" version but would totally drive the point home 🫠😂

On the Samurai front, I heard an amusing historical factoid that they used to burn incense in their helmets before going into battle so that if they were decapitated in battle, their opponent would be greeted with a pleasant fragrant smell. 🪔 Another totally "extreme sports" OTT approach to stress management. 🤺
