What are everyone's favorite passages from the books you're currently reading? Thank you @magnator for sharing this idea with us! (Feel free to share more ideas for the /books channel in that thread, if you have them ☺️) https://warpcast.com/magnator/0xd68d6c91

Leaves of Grass has been my daily breakfast companion for most of this year; I'm compelled every day to share here, but don't want to flood the channel 😄

The reason why higher-level subjects can be studied at all is that under special circumstances the stupendously complex behaviour of vast numbers of particles resolves itself into a measure of simplicity and comprehensibility. This is called emergence: high-level simplicity ‘emerges’ from low-level complexity.

One of the most incredible takedowns I’ve ever seen/read/heard. I’d love to be in a situation to use it one day but doubt I could pull it off

The bird, the pin, the song, the berries, the watch, the cracker, the dress that burst into flames. I am the mockingjay. The one that survived despite the Capitol's plans. The symbol of the rebellion. Suzanne Collins, Catching Fire (The Hunger Games, #2)

"Oh no," he said, laughing."For the blast of a supernova explosion to kill you, you would have to be ridiculously close—probably within ten light-years or so." A good reminder of how everything is relative.
