it is definitely important to be prepared for the eventualities you are talking about and I believe that monetary independence is a medium or long-term goal that everyone should aspire to. We are already seeing a massive decline in once-strong economies like Japan, whose currency has lost half its purchasing power in less than two years. Liberal democracies are failing and their representatives are already masquerading as dictators.
