I’ve spent a lot of time over the past few years in major Westernized cities. There are cultural differences, but many things are the same. They all play the same (English) music and rely on the same basic infrastructure. What is the strangest place you’ve visited in your life. Why?

The least westernized place I have visited is North Korea, where I lived for 7 days. Runner up, Port Vila in Vanuatu.

the Maldives is pretty different. 1200 tiny islands, capital city/island is 15 minutes walking across and the highest elevation in the whole country is 8ft above sea level. also a Muslim country, so outside of resorts, women wear long clothing even in the water, no alcohol, and mosques everywhere

Cabo Verde Island. It was the first time for me to feel me disconnected totally. I figured out this moment the real life is to be in place with space and silent.

Macedonia when the money was starting to flow but the civilization hadn’t caught up yet. A city full of empty luxury hotels and expensive sculpture gardens but no one to see it use them

Living I. Latvia was fun, but the strangest place I visited were the Uros islands in Lake Titicaca. Man-made from straw. People still live there, but it was mainly a tourist attraction.

Try Armenia. Wonderful ancient places and cities are something between ancient and soviet style. Install the translator.
