I’ve spent a lot of time over the past few years in major Westernized cities. There are cultural differences, but many things are the same. They all play the same (English) music and rely on the same basic infrastructure. What is the strangest place you’ve visited in your life. Why?

the Maldives is pretty different. 1200 tiny islands, capital city/island is 15 minutes walking across and the highest elevation in the whole country is 8ft above sea level. also a Muslim country, so outside of resorts, women wear long clothing even in the water, no alcohol, and mosques everywhere

Mauritius was wonderfully different although its capital had some of the trappings of the western world and what have you. Mind you the more I think about it, with the growing range of hotels etc… it’s slowly succumbing
