I prefer to read in clusters. When I find something I'm interested in, I stack multiple books on the same topic. This has lots of benefits -- it provides perspective and helps me retain information better. A few clusters I've enjoyed recently: the Manhattan Project, early computer age, autobiographies of writers.

I like to have a stack of somewhat unrelated books to encourage cross pollination of ideas, thinking about some things in different contexts

Ideas compound. Sentences compound. Your understanding will be greater for this. What kind of notes / highlights do you take as you read?

Yes! Currently: cinema greats, dead poets, fractal science, 1920s literary mavericks

What writers’ autobiographies did you read? Any recommendations? I’ve read Stephen King’s but no others I can remember.
