Spoke with a dev today who told me he doesn't believe AI is such a big deal, perceives of it as merely a new tool, and that it won't change much about his plan for his life or what matters to him. Huh.

To me, AI is thought provoking in terms of ethics and philosophy, but perhaps more importantly I think it changes what it makes sense to build as a startup founder. People’s needs stay the same but what’s worth building, and how to conceive of building in the first place is in flux.

some seam-splitting in that statement might be helpful AI not a big deal - 🤔 AI is a new tool - ✅ changing plans - so early, tough to say whether head-in-the-sand or 'I've founded an AI chatbot startup' is more foolish in the long run.

I find those most knowledgeable about the tech tend to have mostly extreme positions. Either it's nbd and just a tool or it's full on existential risk our species is ending and getting replaced by AI in our lifetimes.

I agree that it probably won't change my plan for life or what matters. However, it is a big deal. It certainly augments my coding as well as places more focus on what needs to be delivered rather than how to deliver it. It also provides an objective solution without all my bias of how I think it should be done.
