My 16 year old wants to try his first beer. Are there any issues with this? And if not, what beer should I pick?

Thx that’s approximately my thinking on the matter as well. And definitely what I did much younger than he is now.

firstly, it’s great that he shared this with you, it shows he trusts you
secondly, he’ll always remember he had his first beer with his dad
thirdly if you say no, he could just go behind your back and do it, and become sneaky

Don’t go around telling people but if we were getting sloshed at that age puking in tubs and playing with your win vomit, then I don’t see why he couldn’t. 

2 options: give him naty ice and start from the bottom, or get a classy craft IPA that will overload his tastebuds and make him not want to drink beer for another 16 years.

I hope so too. It’s difficult to consistently model good behavior, without hypocracy, as a flawed being. But keeping your word with them, and explaining what happened when you can’t, goes a long way when it comes to keeping trust.
