How many times should you follow up after an interview to take the L and just accept that you’re being completely ghosted? Waiting to hear back on a prerecorded video interview, a first interview, and a second interview with no responses/updates after a follow-up email to each. Also, WTF is up with this trend??

I usually follow up just once and move on. Always avoided recorded video interviews. It’s creepy and one-sided. An interview goes both ways and a company that can’t even do that is not one I want to work for.

Besides being an employer's market (more leverage to employers, as opposed to candidates), my other assumption is much higher application rates due to LLMs, meaning recruiters have to evolve how to filter for quality. Recommendations and other reputational criteria will be needed to offset AI generated applications.

I think its being done to hire/promote from within and using applicants to see what is out there to gage the level of employees in a business. A lot of these jobs out there seem to have no intention of hiring. been looking for so long now and its probably just better to create your own job these days.

Feel for you - been there - it sucks and dents your confidence (even for the most self assured). The right thing will come. When people are being long and unresponsive I think it’s best to check out emotionally. Think how the best most in demand candidate would act - would they chase?
