A mini heatwave is coming through so I’m putting up shade cloth around my greens and herbs to hopefully prevent bolting but we shall see how it goes.

FarCon or not, you should get your hands on these /⁠humankind candles! Reliably the best quality, best smelling, loooong lasting (my last year’s FarCandle just finished burning recently!), and Sam is also just an incredible human being. 🕯️ also shih-tzu approved 🐶

New growth on one of my overwintered pepper plants! One thing to keep in mind is that aphids will be ready to swarm these tender new leaves with not much else in the garden yet. Ants on your plants is also a sign of them farming aphids. I usually fend off aphid pressure with simply blasting the plant with water in the mornings until they are gone.

Murasaki sweet potatoes are in the bag! A little early but these stems were actually “overwintered” from last year. I also have some Okinawa purple slips growing out now too.

I planted a 4 inch pot of these African daisies in the ground last year and now it’s about 4 feet wide. 😲 I even chopped about a foot of it off that was hanging over the edge but it came back even more. I only water it occasionally in the summer dry spells. Zone 9b in California, very popular landscape plants here.

We named our sourdough starter Gemma. We perpetually take pieces of her to use, to discard, and to put back into her jar, only to be fed intermittently enough to keep her alive until the next time we need to rip her apart.

This made me think of the literal hike on Mount Diablo (in the SF Bay Area). It’s an all-day 15 mile hike, with 5 peaks to summit. At each peak we looked back at all the progress we made, and it was astonishing. (March 2017)
