Bikes 🚲

I'm long electric cycling. 

Bikes are a technology, electric ones are better.

Tour De France and others would be 10x more interesting with electric bikes and constraints like only battery per race and a weight limit.

Tradeoffs and strategy become fascinating while improving the tech. Athletes still have to athlete.

What are my fellow cyclist thinking of this idea?

There are def technological aspect to the game of cycling but no way TDF is going to be more interesting with electric bikes.

IMO this should always be a separate event vs human powered. I believe e-bike racing already exists in some capacity, e-scooter racing certainly does hah

Terrible. Human power only. That’s what makes it a human interest.

I'd hate to see them in TdF etc. Bike racing is chaotic enough as is, there would be more accusations of cheating than there already are. Also, I love the physicality of a bike race, the struggles up a mountainside would not be the same when battery assisted!

i have no specific beef with e-bikes but suggesting it’s a drop in replacement for anything bike related like racing seems. weird? “lets use motorcycles in the tdf! that’s progress!” just doesn’t click for me.

I cant imagine a cycling world like that.

It probably would be the same failure as Formula E.

Could become like stock car racing; everyone uses the same constraints on their bicycle

E-bikes in competition? Lol.

E-bikes in general? Absolutely! They make cycling accessible to so many more people.
