Surfacing this first by saying I don't have children, yet. However, I had a colleague leave our company to start teaching at https://www.nuevaschool.org/ —to me, this is the dream schooling experience I'd want for my future kiddos.

yes! we're in bay area and our son went to nueva school summer 2021 despite remote work though, school remains the greatest geographic shackle most families have we do school/work from anywhere, e.g. we spent 6 weeks in CO and UT last winter skiing b/c we wanted that experience

teachers today still work like artisans, where they literally do everything (from scratch) and are stretched very thin they could be unbundled into superstar teachers (who stream), local coaches for discussion, and graders. then re-bundle as decentralized primary education?

http://www.sfbaghs.org/ has a few hundred bay area families and has been instrumental for us in making this work https://www.astranova.org/ has also been crucial, and i've been managing their online parent community and organizing regular meetups

there's no easy product that solves everything today. still requires stitching something together and lots of work as more people do this, my hope is we'll reach critical mass and will get much easier
