There has been a relentless opposition research campaign targeting JD Vance lately. This campaign has dug up his old podcast clips and video appearances to paint a picture of him as radical, dishonest, and culturally out of step with most Americans. The clips are not all bad, but they are having an effect in painting him as “weird” — an accusation that he has been unable to rebut with natural charisma. Vance is a smart person undoubtedly, but it seems that he has become victim to his overly cerebral and online manner of expression and poor showmanship compared to Trump. There is also a perception that he is a bit of a phony since he had a well-documented public record as a Never Trump conservaliberal before suddenly rebranding as MAGA. As I mentioned before, Vance is not funny, which is fine, but humor is also an important part of what made MAGA culturally successful. This was embodied by Trump himself, and it is why he is so essential to the movement. Vance has time to pivot but not unlimited time.

The thing is even if he does manage to somehow find charisma, he's done so much media, and all of it is wildly out of touch, which his whole persona is suppose to be working class champion

If the media applies a modicum of intellectual honesty or parity in their clearly partisan rancor, Harris would be as in trouble or worse. She is intellectually incapable, something everyone who's lived in California over the past 20 years seemed to know before 3 weeks ago. But they won't.

I'm curious how much of these surfacing clips/pictures were included in the research that was hacked from the Trump team and might be getting slowly dripped out.

Not a good example of someone who really succeeded in the MAGA GOP but Mike Pence is probably less funny and charismatic than Vance. At least a handful of key differences why that didn’t matter as much for him - wasn’t on record as Never Trump until after they broke up, was more of an old school heartland R than a new age populist, etc. Vance is screwed as far as I can tell. Things can change quickly in politics as we’ve seen since Biden dropped out, but JD isn’t going to all of a sudden become charismatic and/or fix his past statements and inconsistencies. His best chance at turning things around is probably the VP debate

They gotta paint a certain narrative! People evolve, but that’s often ignored.

Trumps antics were fresh when he first ran, not anymore though. He was able to clown and shock & awe into the WH the first time but I doubt it would work in these elections. He needed either a polar opposite (to bring credibility to his campaign) or someone extremely like him (to double down on the theatrics and bullying) and he picked someone in between, which is the worst way to play this imo.

Trump also has time to pivot. Low odds on that though. https://polymarket.com/event/jd-vance-steps-down-as-republican-vp-nominee?tid=1723831968078

The fact of the matter is that Vance was briefed that these type of attacks were already prepared so I am sure he got his way out of these type of attacks as he should. My only concern I got with him is his close relationship with Peter Third (PayPal Overlord ) and the agenda that comes with it .. will he be compromised by him once he steps into office. That’s probably a bigger concern than anything else 500 $FARTHER
