I can cast to zero channels now. The new default “invite only” behaviour is not a good way to build a social network, imho. If I am locked out of “where the discussion is happening,” then I imagine *many* more users will be too. The app becomes dead on arrival for 99% of us.

To be fair, your last cast to main was five months ago and the change was heavily weighted towards recent activity because there needed to be some cutoff. You can still just cast to main about whatever you want. If you do that, your ideas will naturally find their way into communities that want to discuss them with you.

1. Everything is public to read 2. The initial members were people who have been active 3. I’d imagine it will be pretty easy for you to get into a bunch of channels. What are you interested in?

The goal is to get onboarding to be focussed on channel - so on arrival, you're not in a general feed, but start with one specific channel and grow outwards from there. That said, I hear you that you're not able to cast into many channels. Which ones do you miss casting into? There may be some friction around joining channels that we can reduce.

Your personal 5 minute inconvenience is not a fair critique without considering the whole picture. If the choice was between the above or a platform with 80% bots and spam. In the age of AI this will be an increasing problem that all networks will need to solve and the solutions will look like some variation of gated channels. Can it be improved? Sure. But atm the barrier to entry is so low that if you spent the time looking to join channels as you did this cast then I’m sure you’d see how easy it is.

Plus, lots of big channels have open invite policies. So the only thing preventing you from posting there is just visiting the channel first to opt-in.

I have mixed feelings. I agree it complicates things for new users, but at the same time I've noticed my feed is way more exciting since the change. Is it just hype or because the change is actually good? Time will tell!

The other thing that makes this worse is that without membership your replies are hidden under “show more replies”. So the idea of being “discovered”, with drastically lowered visibility, & being “invited” by super busy people & insanely busy channel mods is umm 🤔 questionable for new user engagement.

Lots of people leaving in disgust but the devs just shrug and say it’s a good thing. FWIW many channels have a link to join in the header. And you should be able to cast in /gen-art if you did so before, no?

Same. Not sure how much longer I'll bother with an app that deliberately makes it more difficult to make connections. https://warpcast.com/supersigil/0x5f48ebbb
