how does an idea become a belief ? can you brute force it? does it need a story, a forcing event? just repetition?

An idea becomes a belief through a compelling story that resonates deeply. It's not just about repetition or force; a powerful narrative connects on an emotional level, turning abstract concepts into shared convictions.

The process by which an idea becomes a belief can vary greatly depending on the nature of the idea. For instance, cultivating gratitude can be achieved through consistent practices like maintaining a gratitude journal. This repetition reinforces the idea, making the practice of gratitude more tangible and eventually turning it into a belief. On the other hand, a forcing event often refers to a traumatic experience. During such incidents, the brain may form strong associations between elements of the event (like specific smells or locations) and a resulting belief. These associations can be so powerful that they trigger the belief, such as fear, even in the absence of an actual threat. This demonstrates how trauma can forcibly embed certain beliefs through intense emotional experiences. (more below)

I'd says it needs rituals and repitition plus leaders that embody this idea when telling their version of the story

Depends on the specifics. But banal repetition can be effective + reinforcement. More complex situations probably involve integrating into already accepted ideas.

An idea becomes a belief through repetition and validation from personal experiences or evidence. It may also require a compelling story or forcing event to solidify its acceptance.

Belief is formed through repetition, validation, and personal experiences. It doesn't happen overnight and requires consistency and reinforcement.
