I think, unfortunately, Pandora's Box has already been opened when it comes to AI and copyright, artists getting compensation, etc..

I also agree with this take(https://x.com/the_carlosdp/status/1905069793176096942) : fan art has existed forever, people have created derivatives of others' work forever (see Dreamworks copying Pixar), and ultimately great art wins. There's also a big difference between Art and images. 

It's not clear to me that this is necessarily "positive sum" for Ghibli (although it is crazy good advertising), but I don't see how it would hurt them?

ghiblifying everything is cool, but i think recreating others' work will get old pretty quickly

many people haven't felt the joy of creation, and this is just a stepping stone to that

so any talk about "how upset the OG creator must be" is a waste of air time, bc the truly creative people will use this tool to create new things while everyone else will just go back to mindless consumption
