I have spent a long time thinking about this and one thing you have to be really careful about is straying into illiberalism when you get too lost in the food is poison sauce Yes the FDA food division is slow moving garbage Are we fat sick and unhealthy Yes But also Americans LOVE their junk food. And at a certain point with this you start getting into a dictation of personal choices right up there with vaccine mandates. Tough problem

I think everyone can make their own choice but I also think people need to better understand the choice their making. Vast majority don't know that the food they're eating has really terrible ingredients that haven't been tested. I also think it's ridiculous how expensive healthy food is. And when I say health I mean non gmo, pesticide free food.

I have thought this too which is why I have in the past advocated for front of package nutrition labels, no marketing allowed on front Health halos are evil

That's a cool idea!! Show us the facts and don't knowingly given people things that negatively impact their health when other alternatives exist. And yes Health halos and green washing just send me up a wall.

No! I wish. They'll sometimes put how much sugar or protein when trying to use it as a selling point but that's it

In Chile where they have had these since 2016 it has helped people make better choices https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34390670/ This of course does not address concerns about additives. Many low calorie fitness foods are heavily processed and additive laden but "healthy" from a perspective of sugar, sodium, and sat fat

That's cool! I don't necessarily mean that because the label says those things it's healthy. I meant more so in the vein of it being toted as healthy when it really isn't. Except for the occasional treat we don't buy anything with added sugar. I generally follow the rule of "if I can't picture what an ingredient looks like I don't buy it"
