There is no better analogy for Ethereum than "World Computer" I don't understand the insistence on wanting Ethereum to be exclusively DeFi.

World Computer is self-explanatory as a vibe, but not self-explanatory as a rational market.

I don't think its a vibe thing. It's just a better description for the technology. Ultrasound money or even programmable money feels so incomplete. Its the operating system for a decentralized web of applications of which DeFi is but one.

two words is two words. relatively, ultrasound money was useful for its time: https://x.com/ameensol/status/1090344071007166464 programmable money is as valid as always. but its soundness, the actual incentives driving activity and coordination, is not just brand marketing. DeFi is absolutely critical, but not all-encompassing, to Ethereum. if people want to debate that, they need to bring the same rigor of measurement that DeFi brings to the ecosystem. vibes should be respected as vibes, but we can do considerably better than vibes and alt-text of vibes.

you gotta narrow the marketing down to the smallest narrowest slice of what people are hiring your technology to do, and nearly all PMF for blockchains is defi rn.

it feels really bimodal to me. DeFi is such a rational market, even hyper-rational, that we get the whole MEV saga as a lagging vibe. otoh, World Computer is such an irrational market, so invested to future culture, that it ends up internalizing DeFI (e.g. @zora) as a narrative moat.
