It's pretty wild how much conflicting startup advice there is, so important to have it be in the context of who is saying it and what the company is working on, market conditions, team, etc. For example, common conflicting advice of ship quickly even if things break vs focus on high quality. It depends!

I think at some point I totally tuned out the flood of noise on this subject, and just focus on my own experiences and intuition. Too many variables to control for on why a given person was successful, to take their word 100%.

It's a good mental model is to treat this type of advice as stops on a path/route. 1) They make no sense without knowing the whole route proposed. 2) They may not be on your route, or may be incompatible with the way you travel.
