What are some good ideas in consumer crypto that didn't work because they were ahead of their time (not because they were fundamentally wrong)?

as in crowdfunding DAOs? or buying the constitution in particular?

People love curating things and competing on best curation. Everything from American Idol to Yelp are examples where people want to show off their taste and be right. Adding economic incentives to that can add a new dimension to the curation game.

I never understood a practical use case for TCRs. Seems like a nerdsnipe for the same people who get excited about DIDs.

I'd say that ICOs weren't that stupid - they just didn't have any guardrails and met a super hot market where people bought every promise.

Yesss - have always thought there was something around onchain managed marketplaces that leverage shared/open reputation systems

Voting that relies on personhood, anything that requires a reputation system (ex: onchain rideshare dapps), onchain tradfi securities.

Social fi with good tokenomics and value mechanisms

Crypto as a payment method — lack of  stablecoin adoption (at a consumer level) made it much harder to get people to spend what they view as investments (ETH, BTC)
