sorry to be the barrier of bad news to all you traditional design rule lovers, but it is absolutely FAKE NEWS that you โ€œmustโ€ only use two fonts when designing. i believe in the power of multiple fonts. that is.. if you can make it work ๐Ÿคญ

I actually use only one if I can swing it :P It all depends of course, but the biggest variable imho is whether one (or both) fonts are part of a good family, so they have enough weights and axes and stuff which in the end it means you practically have more than 2

I dunno if there is an established hard rule of most two fonts. It's highly contextual. Apple strictly uses one font for everything. They have a very sophisticated portfolio of computer hardware made to be as simple and approachable as possible, so keeping it simple and strict works great for them. Bratz are expressive, visually loud, and generally contrarian take of the goodie two shoes trope of Barbie. In a sense they're the underdog and they're counting less on mass appeal and more on deeper connections. Many fonts works great for them! It's a balancing act that varies greatly based on the complexity of the product and the intended audience.

One day, I had to make beautiful tickets for a community theater play, and I used four fonts in total on a 3cm by 9cm space, and honestly, it turned out really well. There were two fonts for the information, two fonts for the branding โ€“ one for the play, which had its own theme, and another for the theater company, which also had its own identity. It got people talking, but in a good way. Only two fonts: I think indeed this is a consideration that applies more to documents than to packaging.

Multiple fonts donโ€™t mean If your product is unique the font that matters are the ones that label your products (make them pop)
