Are standups archaic for small (remote) teams? Increasingly feel like a one weekly call is good and allow async for the rest of the week + tooling to keep everyone in the loop Any input on how to make work more pleasant for everyone is appreciated

One call a week + async > daily standup imo, esp for small focused teams. I really struggle to place what you lose when you go to weekly (besides just team bonding but idk, we've done open office/cooler chat which worked with that).

stong agree on this daily standups feel rooted in trust issues (or as something youre "supposed to do") - 1 weekly call (sync) - additional calls if needed (triggered by need, not cadence) - lots of async text chat and banter

anecdote but at one of my first startups we developed soo many bad habits looking at processes they had at eg google or spotify instead of actually observing the people around us to see what made them better and happier the latter requires a lot of conviction which i didnt have at the time
