The Purple Tomato is the first GMO avail to home gardeners. Norfolk Plant Sciences put color genes from a snapdragon into the plant. The indigo series mentioned in the article, while not as vibrant have some good traits. Indigo cherry drops would be my recommendation from that line of naturally bred varieties. Widely available. Magic Molly potatoes are another tasty anthrocyanin source.
