One thing that does give me pause about nuclear is like …. do you trust any of these people pushing this stuff and running it to be honest with you in an accident? Reactor no 4 in Chernobyl exploded 3 days before they told anyone to get out of the surrounding area

i'm not sure if the trust framework is necessary if there is no direct transaction / choice taking place

yeah this has usually been the longstanding opposition in places like India, and honestly fair point.

But OTHER than the possibility of a nuclear meltdown poisoning thousands of people… what’s the downside?

agree, but the problem there is extended way beyond just nuclear...

A lot of the people running them in the US are gigabrain former Navy nuclear engineers. Trustworthy bunch.

the difference is in american decentralization. it's why we're the best although not most organized but it's really hard to control things that's why a lot of the conspiracies don't make sense here because we have multiple layers of different governments working together all the time they aren't some homogenous unit.

Depends on the generation of nuclear power plant. The newer ones gen 4+ won't have runaway type reactions and have other safety features built in. The engineers in the industry take safety absolutely seriously and I don't think they'll just sit there and take orders to not warn friends and family to evacuate if higher ups decide to pull a cover up.

Note that people outside of the us except direct competitors would want this to happen regardless of trust, as accidents affect them less, and burning fossil fuels would affect them more in the long run.
